Why I Started The Prosona Company

I’ve worn a lot of hats. Designer. Instructional designer. Teacher. Creative director. Business owner. Some weeks, all of them at once.

Most of that work comes down to one thing: taking something complicated and making it make sense. In instructional design, I’ve seen how the right structure and the right words can help someone finally understand something they struggled with before.

At some point I started noticing that the same idea applies to our careers.

We spend years learning how to do our jobs. We solve problems, pick up skills, and figure things out as we go. But knowing how to do something and knowing how to explain why it matters are two very different skills. And nobody really teaches the second one.

You can be great at what you do and still struggle to say what makes you valuable.

Maybe you look at your LinkedIn profile and it just doesn’t sound like you. Maybe you have years of experience but no idea how to pull it into one clear story. Maybe you know you have more to offer, but you’re not sure how to help other people see it.

That’s the problem I want to help solve.

The job market isn’t making this any easier

Right now, a lot of people are staying put. CNN reported this month that the rate of hiring has been stuck at its lowest level in about a decade (not counting the pandemic), and the rate of people quitting their jobs is close to a six-year low. In plain terms, fewer people are leaving and fewer people are getting hired. CNN

Staying put isn’t a bad thing. But it comes with a cost. According to ADP payroll data cited by CNN, people who switched jobs in September saw a median pay bump of 4.8%, compared to 3% for people who stayed. CNN

So if you’re staying where you are, getting noticed where you are matters more than ever.

And the old advice isn’t working the way it used to. CNN reported that a lot of people went back for advanced degrees when the job market started slowing in 2023, and now those applicants don’t stand out the way they hoped. AI is also changing how people look for jobs and how they apply. CNN

More credentials and more polish aren’t the answer. Being clear about what you bring is.

It’s not about becoming someone you’re not

I don’t believe building your professional brand should mean creating a shiny version of yourself that doesn’t feel real. You shouldn’t have to use words you’d never say or brag about yourself in ways that make you cringe.

Instead, I want to help you see what you already bring to the table.

That means looking at your experience, strengths, skills, and wins, then connecting the dots. Once you can see how the pieces fit, it gets a lot easier to talk about them, show them online, and take the next step on purpose instead of by accident.

For some people, that starts with their LinkedIn profile. For others, it’s getting ready for a review, a promotion conversation, or an interview. Everyone’s starting point is different, because no two careers look the same.

Learning should help you actually do something

My background in instructional design shapes how Prosona works. I don’t want to hand you more information just for the sake of it. I want you to walk away with something you can use.

It’s one thing to hear “you should work on your personal brand.” It’s another to sit down, work through it, and end up with something that sounds like you. That’s why I’m building online courses, workshops, and practical resources that help you do the work, not just read about it.

You don’t have to figure it all out at once. Sometimes you just need a clear starting point and a little help with what comes next.

Why Prosona?

Your professional identity isn’t just your job title or your résumé. It’s what you’ve learned, what you can do, how you work, and what you want to do next.

I want to help you bring those pieces together so you can say what you bring with confidence.

And honestly? I don’t have it all figured out either. I’m building this as I go, the same way most of us build our careers. You don’t need a perfect plan before you start. You just need a place to start.

You probably have more to offer than you realize. Sometimes you just need help finding the words.

Welcome to The Prosona Company. Let’s figure out what’s next, together.

Best,

Gayle Bower, M. ED.
